Michigan ranks 44th for average annual sunshine. Despite this, according to a recent report, there are currently 1,840 customers in Michigan that are on a “net metering program” that allows them to use solar systems to offset (and theoretically sell back energy) their electricity bill. Under the current system (which doesn’t favor solar as much as some other states) solar usage in Michigan is growing.
There’s a bill in Michigan’s Senate that would change how this net metering would work. The changes have the potential to halt growth and cripple the industry in Michigan. There’s a great article over at MLive written by Emily Lawler that will get you up to speed.Tags: green building, legislation, Michigan, solar, sustainability
